H-1B Visa Delays: Why Interviews Are Pushed to 2027

If you have tried to book an H-1B visa interview you have probably seen a surprising message: no slots are available until 2027.This is not a mistake. It's because of problems that have been building up over time. Here is a simple explanation of what's causing the delay, with H-1B visa interviews.

1. The Backlog Spark ( 2025)

The crisis started in December 2025. Many consular posts, in India suddenly canceled thousands of appointments set for the end of the year. At first these appointments were rescheduled for 2026.. As more people waited the problem grew and slots, for all of 2026 began to disappear. The backlog of appointments just kept getting bigger and bigger.

2. New Social Media Vetting

  • This is the problem we are facing right now. On December 15 2025 the Department of State started doing something called Online Presence Reviews for H-1B and H-4 applicants.
  • The problem is that now officers at the consulate have to look at the media and professional networking history of an applicant for the past five years.
  • This is a lot of work for them. Because of this consulates can do interviews every day. For example if an officer used to do 20 interviews a day now they can only do 10 interviews a day because Social Media Vetting, for H-1B and H-4 applicants takes much time. Social Media Vetting is really slowing things down.

3. Policy Shifts: The "Third-Country" Ban

The Department Of State made a change that is causing problems. They are not letting Indian people go to countries like Thailand or the United Arab Emirates to get their visas stamped quickly. Because of this all the Indian people who want H-1B visas now have to go to the offices in India. These offices are already very busy. Cannot handle all these people. The Indian H-1B applicants are having to go to these five offices in India because they cannot go to other countries for their visas. This is making things very difficult, for the H-1B applicants.

4. The Rescheduling Trap

  • The system has a problem with people having to reschedule over and over again. A lot of people who were supposed to have their appointments in March 2026 got their dates changed to October 2026. Then they got changed again to early 2027.
  • Chances to reschedule: The government has new rules that say people can only reschedule one time. If the new date the government gives you does not work for you the money you paid might not be good anymore. This means you will have to start the process all over again and wait some more. The Rescheduling Trap is really frustrating for people who are trying to get things done. The Rescheduling Trap is causing a lot of problems, for applicants.

5. Policy Changes and High Demand Make A Big Problem

  • A lot of things happened at once.
  • The government started checking visas carefully and made stricter rules.
  • More and more people, from India were applying for H-1B visas.
  • There were still a lot of applications that had not been processed yet.
  • People wanted to travel more.
  • All these things together made a problem that the system could not handle. Policy Changes and High Demand really caused a lot of trouble.

6. Key Technical Advice for Applicants

If you are trying to figure this out remember a things.

  • Public Profiles are very important. Experts think it is an idea to make your social media profiles Public for a little while. This way you can avoid problems or delays when investigators look at them.
  • You should also keep an eye on slots. You can use services that send you alerts when a slot is available. Most of the time regular slots say "Not Available" for 2026 but sometimes people cancel and a slot opens up.
  • Do not forget to check your visa fee. The fee is called MRV. It is good, for one year. If your appointment gets moved to 2027 you might have to pay the fee so you do not lose your spot.

Good Luck.
